Q1. What parents choose to send their children to Immanuel Christian School?

A1. Immanuel Christian School is supported by parents from a full range of careers and professions who want to instill strong Christian values in their children. Parents from over 30 different Catholic and Protestant churches partner with Immanuel to help them in raising their children.

Q2. Do you have a dress code?
A2. At Immanuel Christian School students are expected to dress comfortably and portray a positive image that reflects the values of the school. Students in grades 4 ? 8 are expected to wear a gym uniform for P.E. classes

Q3. How is the school operated?

A3. Immanuel Christian School is run by a board of directors, chosen from the membership through a voting process by the members. Parents who enroll their children at Immanuel and agree with the school?s Statement of Faith are invited to become members of the school society. Those without children at Immanuel are also invited to be members as a way of showing their support.
Q4. May I enroll my child if I don?t agree with ALL the articles in the Statement of Faith?

A4. Membership is not a prerequisite for enrolling your child at Immanuel. Families who are not in agreement with some of the articles of the Statement of Faith are invited to be Associate Members.

Q5. Why would I want to be a member of Immanuel Christian School?

A5. Members have the privilege and responsibility to take an active role in the affairs of the school. Members have the right to vote at the semi-annual membership meeting, vote on the budget, serve as committee or board member. In general, members have input into the direction of the school.

Q6. What are the limitations of being an Associate Member?

A6. An Associate member is expected to speak positively about the school. They may participate on committees that do not influence the direction and basis of the school. Associate member may attend the membership meetings but may not vote or address any discussion at the meeting.

Q7. Do Immanuel students participate in Standardized testing?
A7.Immanuel students from grades 3 ? 8 participate in the Canadian Test of Basic Skills every other year. The results of the testing are used to monitor the quality of our curriculum and teaching on an ongoing basis. The results from the bi-annual testing assures us that our graduates are ready for any high school they choose.
Q8. Where do Immanuel graduates attend high school?

A8. Most graduates from Immanuel Christian School choose to attend Durham Christian High School (DCHS) in Bowmanville. A local DCHS parent group arranges busing to DCHS.

Q9. Do Immanuel graduates attend local highschools?

A9. Immanuel graduates are very well received in their neighbourhood high schools. They are appreciated for the responsible leadership they offer, the strong academics they possess and their positive contribution to the school culture.
Q10. How can I be involved at Immanuel?

A10. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for parents and supporters to be involved at Immanuel. There are committee opportunities that generally require evening time. There are classroom volunteer opportunities, field trips, and special events to name just a few.

Q11. How are parents kept informed?

A11. Eye on Immanuel, a weekly newsletter is sent by email every Monday. This contains relevant announcements, a calendar of events, a message from the Principal and classroom homework assignments.

Student Agendas are used by students to track homework, reminders, test dates and other relevant information. Classroom teachers use the Student Agendas to exchange messages with a child?s parent.

Q12. Does the school provide transportation?

A12. Immanuel provides busing north of the 401 within Oshawa, Whitby, extending north towards Brooklin. Parents who use the busing service are charged a $750 fee to cover some of the operating costs. The transportation committee organizes bus routes and deals with questions related to bus times.

Q13. Are the school facilities available on a rental basis?

A13. The school gym may be rented with or without sports equipment. A kitchen with cooking facilities is also available. Any number of classrooms may be rented for meetings or similar activities. Contact the office for availability, rates and term of use. office@immanuelschool.caor 905 728-9071

Q14. How long has Immanuel been in operation?

A.14. Immanuel first opened its doors in September of 1962. At the time it was a brand new building. Over the years additional classrooms, a library, a computer room and a gymnasium have been added to the facilities. The students enjoy a spacious, fenced in playground.
