From the Principal's Desk

Theme

The students and staff of Immanuel Christian School are working with a theme that emphasizes the opportunity to put aside worries and rely on God through prayer.

6 Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart.7 And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. Philippians 4 (Good News)

As adults and as children it is not unusual to experience anxious moments. It's not uncommon to be fretting about things that are happening around us or to us.

What we want to convey to each student at Immanuel, it that they are in a caring and supportive environment. As teachers we provide support for their learning as well as their social needs. As a school we provide a wholesome environment in which to learn. Students who are loved and cared for are better able to learn.

We have a Student Social Development mentor on staff. This is one visible way in which we are able to provide students with a support group where they feel safe to share.

Staff

"Every Child is a Gift” is the mantra which summarizes how Immanuel staff members view each student at Immanuel. Since no two children have been created identical, we consider each child and the gifts that God would want that person to develop.

Teachers make a point of connecting regularly with parents in communicating homework expectations, progress being made and results of classroom assignments.

Pedagogy

Our classrooms and the resources available are structured so individual student needs and differences can be considered. Our use of Literacy Place for the Early Years allows teachers to tailor lessons for different ability levels.

Our teachers understand that students learn best when they are challenged but not frustrated with the level of difficulty. Additional support is given to students who need further support. We have a SERT (Special Education Resource Teacher) who works with the classroom teacher to develop and education plan that meets the needs of students who struggle with the grade level work.

Enrichment

Students have opportunities within the classroom to explore areas of learning and challenge themselves to go beyond the main curriculum. Teachers are prepared to allow students to feed their curiosity with individual projects for students who have a firm grasp of the main curriculum.

Students have opportunities beyond the classroom to explore areas of interest. This is not limited to sports. Various noon hour clubs are available to capture their imagination.

Parents

Parents appreciate the opportunity to be involved in a meaningful and productive way. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in various capacities within the school or for activities that extend beyond the school. We have an active Parent Participation Program.

We want each family that joins Immanuel Christian School to experience the joys of learning and growing in a supportive and caring environment.
