Student Support Services

We believe that each student is a unique child of God endowed with talents and abilities that are part of who they are. We recognize that some students experience challenges associated with social or learning expectations of an elementary school curriculum. We provide for the needs of these students in the domains that we are able and have the resources.

Arrowsmith® program is planned for September 2011. The program follows the solid methods developed by Barbara Arrowsmith Young of Toronto. The Arrowsmith program is a vastly different approach to dealing with students with learning disabilities.

Discovery Therapy is offered to students who meet criteria based on formal psychological testing to identify the specific exceptionality. Such a student is considered for therapy. Regular, ongoing contact with parents, classroom teacher, and SERT takes place prior to determining that Discovery Therapy would be beneficial.

Occupational Therapy service is available at Immanuel through CCAC. This is a publicly funded service that is wholly administered by CCAC as with Speech Language Therapy. Referrals for this service are done through the Resource Department at Immanuel but CCAC determines whether the child qualifies for support.

Rainbows offers support for students who have experienced a significant loss in their life.  Rainbows is most commnly accessed by students who have experienced a death in the family or who have experienced parents going through divorce.

Speech and Language service is available at Immanuel through the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). This is a publicly funded health service available to students who meet CCAC eligibility requirements and is wholly administered by CCAC. CCAC will only address Speech concerns (articulation and/or voice fluency).
